What Is A Statutory Audit?
A statutory audit is an independent examination of a company's financial statements to determine whether they present a true and fair view of the company's financial position.
Under Singapore's Companies Act, companies that do not qualify for audit exemption are required to appoint an auditor and have their financial statements audited annually.
The audit process helps ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and provides assurance to shareholders, creditors, and other stakeholders.
Do I Need A Statutory Audit?
Most private companies in Singapore may qualify for audit exemption. However, companies that do not meet ACRA's small company criteria are generally required to have their financial statements audited annually.
A Company Qualifies For Audit Exemption If It:
- Is a private company, and
- Meets at least 2 of the following criteria:
- Annual revenue not exceeding S$10 million
- Total assets not exceeding S$10 million
- No more than 50 employees
For companies that are part of a group, additional Small Group criteria may apply.
